In the beautiful Autumn sunshine, our Year 5 and 6 cross country teams made an excellent start to the season in the first inter-schools competition.
Despite some pre-race nerves, the girls got off to a flying start with Caitlin storming ahead to the front of the pack. They all showed real grit and determination round the figure 8 course and we were delighted when they all crossed the finish line with lovely smiles on their faces. Our top 3 finishers for the girls were Catilin 11th, Tilly 29th and Catherine 31st - a fantastic result from a field of 65.
The boys again got off to an excellent start with Hamish leading the Parkroyal contingency. From our vantage point in the second field we could see some really strong running from all the boys, closing the gap on the leaders as they headed down the final few hundred metres. Unfortunately Hamish sustained an injury and had to pull up leaving the path clear for Freddy, Oliver and Daniel to storm home in 8th, 9th and 12th positions respectively. After a tentative wait, we were delighted to find out 29 points had earned the boys 1st place overall. Our first ever team win!!
Thank you to all our supporters for cheering the team on so brilliantly and especially our cheerleaders Maisie and Violet.
This week's inter school's competition was at Macclesfield Athletics track, a longer and tougher course with a much bigger field of runners. Both Y3/4 and Y5/6 were competing which made for exciting spectating. All the Parkroyal teams showed great grit and determination around the very hilly course and there were some excellent individual placings. This week it was the turn of the Y3/4 girls to scoop a team award with a well deserved 2nd place!
