At Parkroyal learning a foreign language is considered a very important part of children's education because it broadens pupils’ horizons and provides an opening to other cultures, as well as equipping them with the necessary skills for the 21st century. Mme Murphy is our specialist language teacher. Children in all year groups learn French.
Our language curriculum aims to foster pupils’ curiosity and deepen their understanding of people and cultures from around the world. Our curriculum celebrates differences and similarities between people and places, thus developing children’s empathy skills and supporting them to become global citizens.
Children will develop their ability and confidence to understand and respond to others in French and to express their ideas and thoughts orally and in writing. Their learning provides them with a foundation to enjoy and succeed in learning languages at Key Stage 3 and for life.

World Languages Day 2022
We had a fantastic day celebrating World Languages Day this year and linked our celebration to the men's football world cup.
Reception explored what links each child has with other countries. They also learnt about life in some other countries.
Year 1 visited Wales, linking to their learning about the United Kingdom.
Year 2 visited Brazil and the Netherlands, linking to their learning about Rio de Janeiro and their learning about the artist Monderain. They enjoyed making Carnival masks.
Year 3 headed to Spain, linking to their learning about Barcelona. Mr Warrington taught them the Spanish words for different flavoured ice creams. Sxth formers from All Hallows and Kings also came in to teach the year 3s some Spanish.
Year 4 went to Switzerland and France, linking to their learning about mountains and rivers in Europe and their learning about the French artist Degas. Mr Warrington taught a German lesson on ice cream flavours and two sixth formers from Kings taught a lesson about their experience living in France and Switzerland and about French football.
Year 5 travelled to Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Ecuador and Mexico, linking to their learning about South America and their learning about Mayan art and Henri Rousseau’s paintings of the rainforest. A teacher from Kings taught year 5 some Portuguese and sixth formers from Kings and All Hallows also gave the children special Spanish lessons.
Year 6 visited Cameroon, Senegal, Ghana and Mexico, linking to their learning on the chocolate trade. They also had a Spanish lesson on ice cream flavours by Mr Warrington and a Spanish lesson by two sixth formers from Kings.
World Languages Day 2021
We had a very busy day celebrating World Languages Day this year.
Year 3 went to Barcelona. They had a special lesson learning Catalan.
Year 4 visited Russia and India. They had a special Russian lesson and also learnt some Gujurati.
Year 5 visited Japan and South America. They had a special Japanese lesson and a special Spanish lesson. The children have learnt about Mexico's Day of the Dead, learnt a Carnival dance and have been finding out all about Brazil.
Year 6 visited Italy and had a special lesson learning Italian.
Reception, Year 1 and 2 enjoyed learning about langauges, people and places around the whole world.
