Supporting pupil behaviour in school

Positive teaching methods are key to good behaviour and that the provision of a high quality curriculum, through interesting and challenging activities, influence behaviour. A welcoming and secure classroom environment gives clear messages to the children about the extent to which they and their efforts are valued.
Learning environments are organised to promote and develop independence and individual initiative, minimising disruption and uncertainty. This includes the arrangement of furniture and suitable access to resources and learning materials.
Displays aim to be current, lively and to help develop self-esteem through demonstrating the value of every individual’s contribution.

Parkroyal's Positive Attitudes

Our ‘6 Positive Attitudes’ are central to classroom practice and celebrations within school, as well as communication between school and yourselves about your child. Below are several examples of how we will be, and have been, embedding this in our school:
-
Our Monday whole school assembly will refer to one or several of the positive attitudes through our look at current issues in our country and wider world.
-
Our Friday whole school assembly will continue to celebrate pupils’ achievements and the ‘Star of the week awards’ given to pupils will be based on one of the ‘6 Positive Attitudes’.
-
Each week all pupils will be given time to reflect on their week in school and recognise a particular ‘Positive Attitude’ they are pleased with. Depending on the pupils age will depend on how this is delivered and shared.
-
Pupils are awarded ‘House Points’ based on a Positive Attitude and this is shared with yourselves ).
-
Each classroom will devise a ‘Behaviour Charter’ that will use the Positive Attitudes and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) as their guide.
-
Pupils will be explicitly taught why a behaviour/action that they have chosen demonstrates one or more of the Positive Attitudes.
-
Termly praise letters will be based on the Positive Attitudes.
-
Visitors who work with our Pupils will be told about the ‘6 Positive Attitudes’ and asked to proactively use these within their work.
