At Parkroyal learning a foreign language is considered a very important part of children's education because it broadens pupils’ horizons and provides an opening to other cultures, as well as equipping them with the necessary skills for the 21st century. Children in all year groups learn Spanish.
We follow 'Language Angels', an interactive online programme that allows all teaching staff to deliver authentic and high-quality Spanish lessons. Our multimedia language curriculum aims to foster pupils’ cultural awareness and appreciation of diversity; this cultural exposure helps develop empathy and global citizenship. Furthermore, our curriculum offers the opportunity for children to enhance their cognitive skills such as problem solving, critical thinking and creativity, which are important and transferable skills they can use across the breadth of the curriculum.
Pupils in Year 6 are also taught by a Secondary school teacher with the aim of supporting our older pupils as they move towards their transition to high school. We continue to engage with and welcome our work with some Secondary schools with regards to whole school events such as our World Langauages Day.
Children will develop their ability and confidence to understand and respond to others in Spanish and to express their ideas and thoughts orally and in writing. Their learning provides them with a foundation to enjoy and succeed in learning languages at Key Stage 3 and for life.
