We are delighted to announce that we have achieved the School Games Platinum mark award for the 2022/23 academic year.
The School Games Mark is a government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sports Trust, to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to be recognised for our success.
This year's award is a significant achievement. Platinum is the highest accolade and is only achieved after a school has been awarded Gold for 5 consecutive years and has shown consistent dedication to sport and activity in their region. We were awarded Gold in 2016/17, 2017/18, 2018/19 before a pause due to the pandemic and then again in 2021/22 and 2022/23.
As part of our application, we were asked to fulfill criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone in our school community has been rewarded and acknowledged.
We are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport.
Aspire Trust Football Tournament
The season finale...the Aspire Trust Tournament, held at Macclesfield Academy…how did it go?
Well, there were seven teams in attendance and all schools played each other. We were fantastic in the opening 5 games, drawing 1 and winning 4. The last group game was a thriller ending in a 4-3 defeat.
After 6 group games we went through in 2nd place to the semi finals. This meant we were drawn against Wilbraham, who we had drawn 2-2 with at the start of the tournament.
In the semi final we couldn’t be separated again, with the game ending 0-0 meaning…penalties. The penalty takes dispatched their penalties with confidence but the hero was Hayden (our goalkeeper) as his saves meant that we prevailed and qualified for the final.
The final was against Wilmslow Academy, the
team that beat us 4-3 in the final group game.
It was a much closer match…ending 0-0
meaning…penalties…AGAIN.
The penalties were dispatched brilliantly by
both teams and the shootout went to sudden
death…unfortunately we missed the all
Important kick, crowning Wilmslow as the new
Aspire football champions and us as runners up-
for the second year running.
Penalties can be cruel, but the football we played
and the desire to win was incredible. We go again next year.
